Welcome:GZTECH
GZTECH was invited to attend the 16th High-Tech Lithium Battery Industry Summit with the theme "Embracing Change, Opening Up New Frontiers," organized by High-Tech Lithium Battery and the High-Tech Industry Research Institute, held in Changzhou on July 5th. At the summit, Mr. Yuan Jianwen, the Head of Process Engineering of GZTECH, delivered a presentation titled "Breakthrough in the Field of Lithium Battery Welding with High-Power MOPA Fiber Lasers."
Yuan Jianwen, the person in charge of the process, reported on-site
Power battery industry competition has entered the second half, and it is widely recognized that the current power battery industry chain is in a phase of structural and phased overcapacity. To lead the high-quality and global development of the power battery industry, it is necessary to focus on research and development innovation, cost reduction, and efficiency enhancement. In response to the development trends of the lithium battery industry, GZTECH has developed a series of industry-leading laser devices that have significant advantages in the application of battery manufacturing processes, especially in welding.
Below are some of the recent new technologies and breakthroughs shared by Mr. Yuan Jianwen at the High-Tech Lithium Battery Summit:
MOPA lasers are used in the welding process of the lithium battery industry, mainly in the form of helical wire and overlapped welding. High-power MOPA pulsed single-mode laser is suitable for copper, aluminum, nickel, steel, etc. due to its excellent beam quality, wide range of pulse width selection, high single pulse energy, free switching between pulse and continuous mode, and no fear of high reflection. Overlapped welding of any combination of two materials from thin to thick, especially for dissimilar materials, high heat impact requirements, high back mark requirements, and penetration risk welding scenarios, MOPA is especially advantageous.

Compared to continuous lasers, MOPA welding offers several advantages such as superior beam quality, high peak power, and a wide range of pulse width selection. In practical process applications, it enables effective joining in various scenarios, including welding aluminum to steel, aluminum to copper, and aluminum to aluminum. In the welding of 4695 large cylindrical battery bus bars, GZTECH has achieved mature applications, and the application of 4680 module welding has also been tested.
The main advantages of MOPA lasers in the welding processes of the lithium-ion battery industry include:
High-power MOPA fiber lasers are mainly used in the lithium battery industry for processes such as tab cutting, pole piece cutting, and battery module disassembly. The capacity and efficiency of the lithium battery industry are strongly related with the development and power level of laser technology.
With the development of long cell battery technology, most cell electrodes have a length greater than 300mm. High-power MOPA lasers play a significant role in ensuring consistent cutting effects and overall length uniformity.
Battery disassembly is an easily overlooked application within the lithium battery industry. GZTECH has cooperated closely with multiple industry customers to tackle this technical challenge and achieved satisfactory disassembly results. The previous "brute force" disassembly has been replaced by the current "gentle" laser disassembly, with laser power increasing from the initial 500W single-mode to today's highly efficient 1000W single-mode.
The application of laser cleaning technology in the lithium battery industry includes Pole piece cleaning, blue film cleaning, battery pole/liquid injection hole cleaning, and battery aluminum shell cleaning. Each of these processes has strict technical requirements for laser technology. To meet these demands, GZTECH has developed different models of lasers tailored for cleaning processes in the lithium battery industry.
In the final part of the presentation, as an advanced laser source supplier serving precision manufacturing, GZTECH specializes in the research and production of high-power fiber and solid pulsed lasers. They also made predictions about the future development of MOPA laser technology. They look forward to the relentless efforts of all their talented individuals, as they strive to provide faster and better services to their valued customers across various industries.
